Used Volkswagens can be an excellent way to get a taste of precision German engineering, and Autos of Chicago is a great place to get started. We specialize in helping our clients find the best pre-owned luxury vehicles in the country, including prime examples from prestigious auto marques like Audi, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bentley, and more.
Now, some people may not think used Volkswagens have anything to do with vehicles like those, but here’s something to keep in mind: All five of those names – Audi, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bentley, and Volkswagen – are owned by the same multinational automaker, the Volkswagen Group.
It’s a family relationship that means used Volkswagens are imbued with a premium spirit that sets them apart from run-of-the-mill rides.
As for what sets Autos of Chicago apart from other auto dealerships, it all begins with family ownership, a 100% commitment to transparency, and a knowledgeable, patient sales staff with a laser-like focus on customer service.
Next, our inventory, including our used Volkswagen luxury cars, is carefully selected for an enjoyable and hassle-free ownership experience. Indeed, we’re so confident in the vehicles we sell that each one comes with a 90-day/3,000-mile warranty. Our motto is: We’d never sell a vehicle we wouldn’t buy for ourselves!
Also offering online buying and nationwide shipping, Autos of Chicago is conveniently located in the Chicagoland area and ready to help you find a fantastic used Volkswagen today!
Volkswagen’s history of bridging the gap between mainstream vehicles and more exotic brands can be traced all the way back to the development of the original VW Beetle in the 1930s. The classic Bug is based on a design by a certain Ferdinand Porsche, Sr., whose son and grandson would follow the same basic recipe – using a rear-engine, rear-drive layout – for the legendary Porsche 356 and Porsche 911.
It’s also worth noting that Volkswagen launched a number of daring and dynamic vehicles over the years to complement its mass-market efforts. The striking Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, the hot-hatch Volkswagen Scirroco, the athletic Volkswagen Corrado, and the ultra-lux Volkswagen Phaeton are only a few examples of how the brand has pushed the envelope in the past.
More recent Volkswagens continue to offer well-engineered performance and a premium feel, often with the modern capability of a sophisticated SUV. The brand’s first sport-utility was the Volkswagen Touareg, a mid-size model developed on the same platform used by the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7. The Touareg is tough yet refined five-row SUV with midsize dimensions, muscular performance, and first-class accommodations for five.
The success of the Touareg set the stage for the Volkswagen Atlas, which was introduced in 2017. This spacious three-row SUV offers expansive room for family adventure with advanced driver-assistance systems, a 12-inch touchscreen, a 12-inch driver display, Harman Kardon audio, heated/ventilated seats, 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and a 5,000-lb. tow rating. The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport puts many of the same benefits in a bold five-seat configuration for owners who prefer a more dramatic, midsize SUV.
Used Volkswagen SUVs also include the Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Taos. Nimble and fun to drive, these active adventure machines can provide turbo power, BeatsAudio, a Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, and a full range of high-tech IQ.Drive safety measures. Both are well-suited for exploring urban spaces with comfortable convenience and quick reflexes.
In addition, you can find used Volkswagen SUVs engineered for the electric era. The Volkswagen ID.4 sets the pace with compact dimensions and makes a convincing case for giving up gasoline. The ID.4 is about the size of the Tiguan, but it’s purpose-built for EV driving with single or dual electric motors, rear- or all-wheel drive, and up to 295 hp. Perhaps more importantly, VW’s EV SUV is available with quick-charging capability that can take the battery pack from a 10% charge to an 80% charge in about 30-36 minutes. The ID.4 can convert a full charge into some 275 miles of all-electric driving before you need to stop.
VW remains a strong player in the car segment as well, further expanding the pool of premium used Volkswagens to include rewarding sedans, hatchbacks, and even highly versatile wagons. The Volkswagen Arteon is the brand’s flagship sedan, complete with a sleek silhouette and feature highlights such as heated/ventilated leather front seats with a massage function for the driver, hands-on semi-autonomous driving, a Harman Kardon sound system, Digital Cockpit Pro, and a powerful 300-hp engine. Impressive practicality comes into play with the Arteon’s liftback design and ample cargo space.
The Volkswagen Golf portfolio supplies plenty of premium alternatives for drivers as well. An international icon, the Golf builds on the strong foundation of one of the world’s top compact hatchbacks to showcase a strong variety of in-demand vehicle variants. Some of our favorites include:
If you prefer premium used Volkswagen sedans, don’t overlook the Volkswagen Jetta – especially in its GLI trim. The Jetta GLI is often called “GTI with a trunk” since it follows in the tire tracks of the Golf GTI with sport-focused performance and a wealth of amenities. And yes, that includes a responsive 228-hp turbo engine, a sport suspension, and key VW technologies.
Note that the Golf Sportwagen and Golf Alltrack were not in production when this was published, although they still have much to offer savvy drivers. Other notable used Volkswagen cars that are currently out of production include:
Many of our clients will also be glad to know that even though every premium used Volkswagen is supported by precision German engineering, many – like the VW Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and electric ID.4 – are built in the United States.
Whether you have questions about which used Volkswagens are right for you, or if you’ve already picked out your favorite from our large inventory, the Team at Autos of Chicago is ready to help get you into the driver’s seat!
